A reggae album in the spirit of the Jamaican golden age tradition would not be complete without the participation of a vocal harmonies trio. The Silvertones are the worthy representatives of this. Led by founding members Keith Coley and Gilmore Grant, the trio had their heyday in the 1960s with ska and rocksteady hits for Coxsone Dodd such as 'It's Real', 'Smile' and 'Midnight Hour' for the Treasure Isle label. During the 1970s, the Silvertones wrote some of the most iconic roots anthems of the decade, including 'Rejoice Jah Jah Children' for Lee 'Scratch' Perry in 1973.

After a successful first collaboration with the Jamaican trio ('Wonderland of Green'), Swiss band The 18th Parallel knew they could get the sound they wanted from the Silvertones' voices. With 'ONLY ME', The 18th Parallel sought to take the Silvertones to a specific period in Jamaican reggae: the Studio One sound of the late 1970s, when Coxsone took recordings released years earlier and added new bass, drums, and synthesizers to modernize the sound and keep up with the times. It was then that the label released 12" singles called "discomix" where the singers' voices were drowned in reverb, the fender rhodes played the main harmonic role and digital percussion such as the synare 3 multiplied. Willi Williams, Jennifer Lara and Carlton & The Shoes have written some of their greatest songs with this sound. The track 'Only Me', with its wild rhythm by Leroy 'Horsemouth' Wallace, is a nostalgic tribute to this special sound.
