If there is one eternal Jamaican voice, it is CORNELL CAMPBELL. When he named his vocal group The Eternals at the turn of the 1970s, Cornell Campbell probably had no idea that this would be the most appropriate term to describe his voice 50 years later. Since 1961, Campbell had been plying the Jamaican studios, first for Coxsone Dodd and his Studio One, then for the who's who of producers on the island. His period with Bunny Lee and King Tubby in the mid-1970s was probably the most extraordinary of his career. He became the king of the flying cymbals style with hits like 'Dance In A Greenwhich Farm', 'Two Face Rasta', 'Jah Me No Born Yah', and 'Stars'.

After 60 years in the business, with his falsetto voice still intact, Cornell Campbell deserves to be considered one of the greatest artists reggae has ever known. A recognisable vocal timbre, an innate sense of melody, an uncommon artistic longevity, and a professionalism in the studio that few artists can boast. Recorded in the spirit of the Randy's (now VP Records) studio sound of the early 1970s, 'LOVELY FEELING' is the opening track on the Downtown Sessions album because it contains all the qualities of a great song: relevant lyrics, an appealing melody, a heavily hypnotic rhythm, and a perfect performance. Cornell interacts with the music of The 18th Parallel as if two kindred spirits were finally meeting after years of wandering. An ecstatic track that draws from the roots of roots reggae to extract an ethereal sweetness!
